Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland (prostate gland), an organ that produces a liquid secretion that is part of the semen.The pathology sometimes causes severe pain and potency problems.It is reasonable to begin treatment for prostatitis immediately after diagnosis.
Symptoms
Prostatitis usually affects men between the ages of 25 and 50.The pathology is very common.It affects between a third and half of all men on the planet.The problem has many symptoms:

- a man feels discomfort and pain when urinating;
- urine flows slowly, in a thin stream, you need to squeeze it;
- At night and at other times of the day, there is often a desire to relieve oneself.I can't help but feel that not all the urine has left the bladder;
- urine is cloudy, mixed with blood;
- pain in the lower abdomen, back, groin area and perineum (between the scrotum and anus);
- also haunted by pain, discomfort in the region of the testicles and penis;
- ejaculation occurs with pain;
Symptoms of prostatitis often occur, which are similar to a cold (low temperature, fever).They are characteristic of a type of bacterial pathology (more on this below).
Reasons
Prostatitis occurs more frequently in men who have previously had this disease.The problem is caused by:
- bladder and urethra infection;
- HIV and other diseases that infect a man during sex;
- injury to the pelvic region - falling from a bicycle or horse;
Catheter in the urethra to drain urine from the bladder causes prostatitis in men.
Pathology sometimes appears after a prostate biopsy, when a sample of its tissue is taken for analysis.After such a procedure, symptoms of prostatitis in men are rarely observed.
Complications
Due to prostatitis, you may:
- inflammation of the epididymis (epididymitis);
- sperm count decreases significantly and infertility occurs;
- an abscess (a cavity filled with pus) appears.

Numerous studies carried out by scientists do not find a direct link between prostatitis and prostate cancer.
Types of prostatitis
Prostatitis has 5 main types: chronic and acute non-bacterial, chronic and acute bacterial, asymptomatic.
- Chronic nonbacterial(also known as chronic pelvic pain syndrome).The most common (more than 90% of all patients suffer from it).The signs of prostatitis are unstable, come and go.No pathogens are found in the body.The diagnosis is made if, for at least 3 months, the man has suffered from pain in the pelvic region, discomfort when urinating and other symptoms mentioned above.The exact cause of the disease is unknown, but it is likely caused by:
- neurological problems (neuropathy);
- prostate irritation, which causes insufficient flow of urine from the bladder;
- problems with the pelvic floor muscles (dyssynergia);
- atypical, still unknown to science, viruses, bacteria.
- Non-bacterial acute.Accompanied by chronic pain in the pelvic region and constant problems urinating.
- Acute infectious.The most serious type of disease.Occurs infrequently.Generated by:
- E. coli, staphylococci and other bacteria;
- venereal pathologies (chlamydia, gonorrhea);
- Candida fungus.
- Chronic infectious.The pathology may not make itself felt for several years.Symptoms are similar to the acute bacterial type, but are not as severe.
- Asymptomatic.Discovered by accident.There are no symptoms.Ultrasound shows signs of inflammation and a blood test shows increased levels of prostate-specific antigen.

Symptoms increase quickly.Discomfort in the pelvic region is accompanied by pain in the genitals, fever, nausea and burning pain when urinating.Acute bacterial prostatitis can cause serious and potentially fatal complications, such as abscesses, inability to urinate, and low blood pressure.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made through:
- digital rectal examination;
- urine analysis.Necessary to determine if there is an infection in the prostate;
- blood test.The level of prostate-specific antigen is checked.The test reveals signs of inflammation;
- Ultrasound of the genitourinary system.It is prescribed when the above tests are not sufficient to make an accurate diagnosis.Prostate ultrasound is preferably performed through the anus (transrectal method).
In addition, sometimes the doctor analyzes prostate secretions.To achieve this, the gland is massaged.
Tests may be prescribed for various venereal infections that cause prostate inflammation.
Professional diagnosis will make it possible to prescribe the correct treatment for prostatitis in men.
Treatment
If the prostatitis is bacterial, the doctor prescribes:
- Antibiotics.Its type depends on the bacteria identified.You will have to take the medicine for a month and a half.If symptoms are very severe, antibiotics are given immediately intravenously.
- Alpha blockers.The medications relax the bladder muscles where the prostate connects to it.Relieves pain during urination.
- Painkillers- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

You cannot prescribe medication yourself.Only a doctor determines how to treat prostatitis.
Prevention
To prevent prostatitis:
- take a warm sitz bath;
- apply a heating pad to the lower abdomen or back;
- stop drinking alcohol, caffeine, foods that increase acidity (spicy, salty);
- We drink a lot of liquids (without sugar).This way we will wash the genitourinary system;bacteria will not have time to multiply;
- Let's try not to ride the bike for too long, not sit for too long;
- do not forget about penis and perineum hygiene;
- we use contraceptives;
- We play sports.Simple cardiovascular exercises will be enough - start running, swim in the pool, do a light warm-up.
Preventing prostatitis should be part of your lifestyle.Simple ways to protect the body.
